None of my components are over-clocked at all. My copy of Windows 8 arrives of Tuesday, I don't mind installing it but I thought I'd ask here before rushing into anything.

The fact that the machine runs in safe mode just fine and after a reboot suggests some driver conflicts somewhere rather than a hardware fault. I had to enter safe mode and reset/disable it. (I enabled it and restarted my PC but the system hung at the "Starting Windows"/Windows logo. I don't think this'll make much difference and people seem to think BIOS updates are risky. The mobo is on the standard/out of the box version from 2 years ago. (Got everything except language packs.)Ĭhanged the registry entry so that Windows now clears the page file on shut-down.Ĭhecked msconfig and services.msc for stuff that shouldn't be there. Ran the Windows Repair Tool from the Window 7 disc.Ĭhecked motherboard for blown/leaking capacitors. Ran full scan of MalwareBytes, Spybot Search + Destroy and Windows Security Essentials. Which moved the "safe" value of 1333mhz up the normal 1600mhz.

Rolled back nVidia drivers using safe mode and Driver Sweeper to a "safe" version that a lot of gamers seem to prefer as it's most stable. MemTest86 - Tried both sticks in both slots at the same time and individually. I can run games etc for several hours with no problems. When the system restarts, it's completely fine.
